2014 Cuvee Luke- 92PTS - "Light golden yellow color and clear in the glass. Nicely perfumed with scents of yellow Babcock peach and various tropical fruits. Highly enjoyable, with bright flavors of peach, quince, mango and slight nutty oak. Viognier definitely has put a stamp on this wine through notes of spice and jasmine. Slightly viscous on the palate with impeccable balance and breeding."
  • Rhone Shootout - 94PTS
2013 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir - 90PTS - "A blend of grapes from South Patch, Starr Ridge and Dutton Ranch vineyards. A cherry-driven wine sporting soft tannins that is forward drinking and easy to like. Accents of baking spice, cola and oak add interest to the juicy palate."
  • Rhone Shootout - 94PTS
2013 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast- 90PTS - "Grapes are from Horseshoe Bend and Campbell Ranch vineyards. Highly aromatic, with aromas of blueberry and cherry. Soft and lush on the palate, with giving flavors of wild berries, blueberries and plums framed by vivid acid and slinky, fine-grain tannins."
  • Parker 91PTS - Davis Family Vineyards Horseshoe Bend Pinot Noir
2013 Soul Patch Pinot Noir - 94-95Pts - "A barrel selection of favorite barrels of the vintage. Some whole cluster fermentation to lift the aromatics. Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass... the wine showed great promise initially with bountiful black cherry and blackberry fruit veiled by oak and tannins... In a word it was fantastic. The deep aroma and flavor of black cherry was intoxicating, there was considerable nuance shown by subtle spices and herbs, the oak had taken a backseat seasoning role, and the tannins had become very suave. The wine assumed an irresistible polish and developed extraordinary length on the finish."
  • Parker 92PTS - Davis Family Vineyards Soul Patch Pinot Noir
2013 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir - 94PTS - "Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Dark berries including blueberries and cherries on the nose are echoed on the middleweight palate. The wine has a fine grain, balanced tannins and a spark of acidity that lifts the fruit to a hi-tone finish."
  • Parker 93PTS - Davis Family Vineyards Starr Ridge Pinot Noir
2013 Campbell Ranch Pinot Noir - 92PTS - "Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Very perfumed, with the aroma of fresh, earth-kissed black cherries, dark berries and an enchanting floral-inspired scent. Silky soft on the palate with succulent flavors of black cherry, black raspberry, plum and fennel framed by integrated tannins and a vivacious acid backbone. A classy, refined wine with perfectly ripened fruit and noticeable length on the vibrant finish."
  • Wine Enthusiast 93PTS - Davis Family Vineyards Starr Ridge Pinot Noir
    93PTS - 2009 Starr Ridge Pinot Noir
"With waves of raspberry, cherry, honeyed cream, cinnamon and caramelized oak flavors, this defines the word delicious. The richness is balanced by crisp acidity and delicate tannins. Just superb to drink now; try pairing it with lamb that's been salted and peppered, seasoned with a hint of rosemary."
  • Wine Enthusiast 92PTS - Davis Family Vineyards RRV Pinot Noir
    94PTS - 2009 Horseshoe Bend Pinot Noir
"A consummate Russian River Pinot Noir in an accessible style. This is simply enchanting, like raspberry-infused silk dusted with brown butter, cinnamon and vanilla. Showing just beautifully now, this is soft and gentle, and it should glide through the next six years."
  • Wine Enthusiast 94PTS - Davis Family Vineyards Horseshoe Bend Pinot Noir
    89PTS - 2012 RRV Pinot Noir
"Ruby-red. Deeply pitched aromas of black raspberry, cola, licorice and violet, with a peppery nuance adding lift. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering pliant dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. Finishes supple, sweet and broad, with very soft tannins and lingering smokiness. Shows the fleshiness of the vintage and also its accessible nature."

    90 PTS - 2012 Pinot Noir - Dutton Ranch
"Deep red. Pungent cherry pit and dark berries on the nose, complicated by notes of cola, licorice and allspice. Smoky black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good depth and an enlivening mineral quality, along with a touch of fruitcake. Finishes spicy, focused and long, with youthful tannins adding shape and grip. I'll bet that this one has at least a decade of positive aging ahead of it."
  • Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
    91 PTS - 2012 Pinot Noir - Soul Patch
"Brilliant ruby-red. Fresh dark berries, cola and rose pastille on the smoke- and mineral-accented nose. Spicy and tightly focused on entry, then more fleshy in the middle, offering gently sweet black raspberry and cola flavors and a spicy topnote that builds with air. Finishes with excellent clarity and thrust, picking up fine-grained tannins that provide focus and gentle grip. Very accessible now, with decanting, but this wine has the depth to age."
  • Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
    91 PTS - 2012 Pinot Noir - Starr Ridge
"Bright ruby-red. Sexy, spice-tinged aromas of cherry, black raspberry and vanilla, with a subtle floral note building in the glass. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors and a touch of spicecake. Shows very soft tannins on a silky finish that prolongs the spice and dark berry notes. Drinking very nicely already, with no rough edges."

    90+ PTS - 2012 Pinot Noir - Campbell Ranch
"Vivid ruby-red. Displays minerally, lively red fruit and floral scents, along with notes of sassafras and licorice. Sappy, sharply focused redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors put on weight with air and pick up a sweet cola quality. Becomes more tightly wound on a finish that strongly repeats the cherry and cola notes. This youthful wine really deserves some patience."

"Deep red. High-pitched aromas and flavors of red berries, candied rose and allspice, with a subtle cola nuance coming up with air. ... tightly focused, offering tangy raspberry and bitter cherry .... Dusty tannins provide shape to a very persistent, spice-accented finish..."
  • Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
90 PTS - 2011 Starr Ridge Pinot Noir
"Vivid red. Sexy, expressive aromas of raspberry, candied rose and allspice, with a bright mineral overtone. Fresh and focused on the palate, offering tangy red fruit flavors and a subtle note of cola that adds depth. Closes with sneaky, very soft tannins and a lingering floral nuance...."

Davis Family Vineyards 2012 Sparkling Rosé de Noir wine was awarded Best Sparkling by Ziggy the Wine Gal and a host of other judges at a blind tasting this past week. Ziggy did a "Summer Picks" blind judging with several other wine-lovers such as "Sommelier to the Stars" Chris Sawyer, Chaney Claypool, Steve Brown and a few others including Ziggy, of course!

Over 100 wines were entered from all over the world and we are thrilled to pieces that our Sparkling took Best of Class out of such a large group of wines and during a blind tasting with such prestigious tasters.

Davis Family 2012 Sparkling Rosé de Noir won Best of Class "Brilliant Bubbles" with every judge scoring it as the best. Judges' notes: "A scintillatingly summer delight, this sparkling rosé has notes of wild strawberries, melon, rose petals, and dried mandarin zest"

Wonderful wine it is for hot summer days or joyous celebrations and and pair exceptionally well with cheese, fruit, desserts and appetizers of all types.

We are rapidly selling through our sparkling, both at our tasting room and from people calling us to order who heard the show. So don't miss out, get it before it's gone. Regularly $55 a bottle, but as a bonus to you for being such loyal fans, we're discounting it to only $45 if you buy before the end of June! Click here to order!

WINERY OF THE YEAR!

Guy Davis, the proprietor and winemaker at Davis Family Vineyards, and I share a friendship that goes back twelve years. I have tasted every Pinot Noir he has crafted over the past twelve vintages and he has shown me the consistent ability to capture the complex aromas and flavors and captivating textures of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Guy’s son, Cole, has become increasingly involved in the winery’s winemaking as cellar master, and Guy’s other son, Cooper, who helped farm the family’s estate vineyard beginning at an early age, is pursuing a wine marketing degree at Sonoma State University, and active in the family winery and tasting room as well. Guy’s spouse, Judy, an RN, has shared Guy’s passion for wine, and along with Guy, planted their Russian River Valley vineyard. She assists with hospitality at the winery and represents Davis Family Vineyards at sales events across throughout the United States. The word “Family” in Davis Family Vineyards is no misnomer...(more)

PBS' new "Moveable Feast" series visits Davis Family Winery
It was inevitable that a PBS series about the nationwide farm-to-table trend would make its way to Sonoma County. When the producers of "Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking" contacted Duskie Estes of Zazu Kitchen + Farm in Sebastopol about filming one of the 13 episodes here, the chef jumped in with both cowgirl boots. As her partner in crime, Estes chose restaurateur Mark Stark, who owns five restaurants in Sonoma County. On July 31, the film crew captured Stark and Estes as they cooked for friends and family at the Davis Family Winery in Healdsburg.

"This winery speaks Sonoma County," Estes said. "You've got it in the glass, the produce is growing here, and the river is over there, which creates the climate."

The Best Food Money Can't Buy
"While most poor families get the world's leftovers, WHOA Farm grows organic food specifically to be given away. Started two years ago by Eddie and Wendy Gelsman, WHOA Farm's mission [is]to provide fresh, organically grown food to those who can't afford it. "It's not a crime to be poor," says Eddie. "Everyone has the right to eat well." Ever ambitious, the Gelsmans want to do even more. In addition to private donations, grants, fundraisers, monthly volunteer days, and an outreach booth at the Santa Rosa farmers market, WHOA is also cultivating creative financial solutions. ...With the generous help of winemakers Guy and Judy Davis, [they] will soon make WHOA Pinot Noir. Beginning in the fall of 2014, they hope to sell 600 to 800 cases annually, which could provide over 50 percent of WHOA's operating budget."

A Fresh Way to Feed The Needy
Eddie Gelsman, 60, and his wife Wendy Mardigian, 49, are the forces behind WHOA Farm, which stands for Work Horse Organic Agriculture. Gelsman is co-owner of Wine Library in Petaluma and has for many years been a proponent of organic produce. Gelsman is the primary donor to WHOA Farm, but he has plans to ensure the nonprofit’s future by growing it slowly and developing connections; Crane Melon Barn, which owns the property between his two parcels, has offered to lease that property and its pinot noir grapevines to WHOAFarm. And winemaker Guy Davis of Davis Family Vineyards, a long-time associate of Gelsman’s, is donating his time to help develop a WHOA Farm pinot noir.
